BOOM TIME AS FIELD AND GAME LIGHTS UP THANKS TO GOVERNMENT GRANT

- — BART IRWIN

He said, “Let there be light, and there was light”, and thanks to a generous grant of $106,600 from the NT Government there will be light on four clay target ranges at the NT Field and Game range.

For many years, the range has been lit on Friday nights with portable lighting plants, but now the club will have state of the art, LED lamps to light up the soon to be completed multipurpose range, two five stand sporting clays ranges and the novice training station.

The multipurpose range will include at least two simulated field stations, one of which is on an elevated platform. It will also be a second five stand sporting clays range, American and ISSF skeet and an elevated teams flush range.

This range has been created with a mix of in kind donated time and effort from Field and Game members and $20,000 of club funds.

The club was fortunate to also have $22,000 worth of redundant power transmission towers donated by MG Electrical.

This entire project will top out at close to $150,000 thanks to the generous support of the NT Government, local business and the muscle power of hard working members.

The existing five stand range will be greatly improved with these lighting towers due to the towers being 11m high. Currently the mobile plants only extend to about 5m.

Novices and juniors will be able to receive coaching into the evening after it cools down.

A third five stand sporting range is planned and will fulfil the dream of having the NT Five Stand Championships shot under lights during this year’s Festival of Clays on Friday, July 20. That weekend will see three NT championship events.

Saturday will be the NT SXS 75 target Simulated Field Championship and Sunday will culminate in the NT 100 target Simulated Field Open Championship. Each event will feature Paul Manners’ much sought after custom, hand crafted trophies. All participants will receive a ticket from each event into the draw for a Fausti Camo 12 gauge shotgun kindly donated by Coolalinga Guns and Ammo.

Come out today see the vision at the 50 target Simulated Field competition from 8am.

Clay target practice and coaching is held at the NT Field and Game range, Brandt Rd, Mickett Creek Shooting Complex, Knuckey Lagoon every Friday arvo from 5pm till 9pm.
