Chelsea, Leicester into FA Cup quarters

-

CHELSEA and Leicester have booked their places in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with home wins.

Willian scored twice while Olivier Giroud scored his first goal for the club and Pedro got the other as Chelsea crushed Hull City 4-0 on Friday night.

And Jamie Vardy scored the only goal as Leicester edged out Sheffield United 1-0, heading home Riyad Mahrez’s cross after 66 minutes.

Hull’s chances of a big upset were ended after two minutes when Willian opened the scoring and Chelsea put the game to bed with four goals in the first half.

Pedro made it 2-0 before the Brazilian made it 3-0 and Giroud scored his first goal three minutes before halftime.

“I was waiting for it,” Giroud said, of his first Chelsea goal. “I had a couple of chances in previous games.”

After two straight league defeats, Chelsea beat West Brom on Monday and built on its momentum with another confident display.

“We can see the team had a good team cohesion,” Giroud said. “It was important to bounce back after some disappointing results.”

Leicester manager Claude Puel said his side had needed to work hard to secure the win over Sheffield United.

“(It was a) tough game against a good team,” he said. “It was difficult to find space. For the first 30 minutes the tempo was too slow.

“But the second half was good for us.”
