JESS WINS NEW TOURISM ROLE
TERRITORY pop princess Jess Mauboy will today be announced as Tourism Australia’s newest ambassador.
Mauboy’s new role will help share Aboriginal culture and traditions with the world.
Federal Tourism Minister Steve Ciobo will announce Mauboy’s appointment as a “Friend of Australia”, an ambassadorial role previously filled by celebs including former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke.
It’s a rung below the role of Hollywood hunk Chris Hem- sworth, who earnt $1.2 million for a series of high-profile performances.
Unlike Hemsworth, Mauboy will not earn a retainer but will be paid for a series of engagements in the role.
She recently performed at the 15th anniversary G’Day USA Gala in Los Angeles and also has a cameo in Tourism Australia’s cheeky Crocodile Dundee campaign in the US, which has sparked calls for a sequel.
Mr Ciobo said Mauboy’s new role would help drive an appetite for indigenous tourism experiences Down Under.
“Jessica Mauboy has had an incredible career and is well known for her music and acting. The appointment as a Friend of Australia will encourage overseas visitors to experience what is truly unique about Australia,” he said.
Mauboy will this year perform at Eurovision for the second time, with her new song We Got Love. As revealed by the NT News yesterday, that song was created to help lift spirits in response to several tragedies, including the alleged rape of a girl in Tennant Creek last month.
