It’s not the name that is a problem

Too many people are rejecting the idea that they are feminists. Why? Because the term, even for some supporting women’s issues, is seen as suggesting an extreme point of view

-

MY colleague Katie Woolf reckons she’s not a feminist.

Writing in the NT News yesterday on the Darwin barber in strife for refusing to cut a woman’s hair, Katie said she rejected the term.

“I don’t consider myself a feminist but I do consider myself a woman who stands up for the rights of women.

“A mum who teaches my daughter to be proud to have an opinion and that she can grow to be anything she wants to be if she works hard.”

After a particularly enthusiastic eye roll and unleashing a few f-words of my own, I was left feeling sad and frustrated by her comments.

It saddened me that I had read those words at the exact moment hundreds of women and men were marching in the Darwin CBD for International Women’s Day.

It frustrated me that even on a day like that – when society looks inward and examines the lingering inequalities that live on – some people still feel feminism is something to

ON WAIT TIMES AT THE RDH EMERGENCY DEPT

I have been seen at ED several times due to a embarrassing misdiagnosis by the junior staff! 8 Presentations in 6 weeks before they figured out it was a simple gall bladder. My boss’s GP diagnosed his gallbladder in 45 minutes in Adelaide. Just want to know what percentage of the patients in RDH are their because they did not get diagnosed correctly the first time Nori

All who work in ED are Amazing and any delays are to do with the number of patients and is for gov. to solve with more resources. I have been treated be frightened of. Feminism’s goal is to get rid of those lingering inequalities.

It means different things to different people, but at feminism’s core is the belief that men and women should be equal.

I have enormous respect for Katie, her opinions and her accomplishments.

She’s a smart, capable fast and very efficiently on my unfortunately many emergency visits. Thanks to them all Shaun

ON SOARING FUEL PRICES IN THE NT

Just drove the Newell highway, diesel never exceeded 135.9, 129.9 at Haldon – and Darwin’s fuel comes direct from Singapore – pure and simple marketer’s ‘tax’ Stephen McGreevy “Soared” more like ‘slightly increased’ Nick Scott

Maybe the NT Government can create a website that will ensure prices stay low. Oh wait. Grant Dore woman and the Northern Territory is a better place for having her.

She has also benefited massively from the feminists who have come before her.

Without feminists, Katie wouldn’t be able to do what she does so well every day.

Without feminists, Katie wouldn’t be able to vote, let alone take a leading role in Territory politics.

Without feminists, it wouldn’t matter how hard Katie’s daughter worked, she would never have the same opportunities as a bloke.

Katie isn’t alone in her reluctance to call herself a feminist. Julie Bishop, Michaelia Cash, Angela Merkel, Lady Get a pushbike and lose weight all you fatties Robyn Jake Theres no need for the price we pay, its gouging Bynoe Boar Self regulation dose not work Snoopy Wangaratta

Bout time someone raised the issue. Was 1.35 for diesel before christmas. Now its nearly 1.50. And the cheaky bastards wont drop it for easter. You watch the prices come back down after easter. Where is this fuel watchdog? Another postion fabricated for a fat cat to earn big mob for doin f**k all Beau Anthony Griffin
