Gaga, Meryl Streep and Taylor Swift have at certain points rejected the term.

Even my personal feminist heroine, girl power queen and Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell once said she was no feminist.

“It’s about labelling. For me feminism is bra-burning lesbianism. It’s very unglamorous. I’d like to see it rebranded. We need to see a celebration of our femininity and softness,” she said in 2007.

Halliwell is right. Feminism isn’t bloody glamorous.

The infuriating argument I had on Friday evening with an intelligent male friend who genuinely believed the gender pay gap was a myth wasn’t glamorous.

One in three Australian women has experienced physical violence since she was 15. There’s no glamour in talking about that.

Feminism isn’t glamorous, but it’s necessary.

When people such as Katie and Angela Merkel and Lady Gaga reject feminism, it reinforces the below myths I’ve taken it upon myself to address.

** Feminism is just for the snaggle-toothed uggos who can’t get a bloke. Untrue. Beyonce. Chris Hemsworth. Emma Watson. Canadian dreamboat Justin Trudeau. Feminism is just as much for the hotties as it is for ugly chicks.

** Feminists hate men and won’t be satisfied until they’re all wiped from the face of the Earth and reproduction takes place through some sort of feminist fission. Untrue. See Chris Hemsworth and the Canadian dreamboat.

I reckon deep down, Katie – like all decent men and women – is a feminist.

But for anyone struggling to figure out where they stand, I’ve drawn up a quiz to help you get to the bottom of what seems to be a tricky concept.

Do you think a woman is worth less than a man?

If your answer is no, then congratulations, you’re a feminist. Welcome to the club. We meet every second Friday at the lesbian punk bikie club to plot the downfall of the patriarchy.

No bras allowed inside.
