Words fail elated medal-winner Gault after win

- JOSH SPASARO

WARATAH midfielder and Brenda Williams Medal winner Maddie Gault had “no words” to describe her team’s convincing 35-point win over the Darwin Buffettes after yesterday’s NTFL Women’s Premier League grand final at TIO Stadium.

“I have no words, I’m so happy,” she said. And being crowned the best on ground yesterday in the biggest game of the year as part of a dominant team when stars Sue Nalder, Trish Muller, Lisa Roberts, Bec Pryer, Lauren O’Shea and Isabella RapsonStaropoli were also among the Warriors’ best?

“It was an absolute shock. I didn’t expect that at all,” an elated Gault said. “It was my first year in the team and everyone was so welcoming. They made me feel part of the family.

“They helped me so much.”

Classy defender O’Shea was proud of her team’s ability to go on with the job in the second half, after Darwin kicked two late second-quar- ter goals to be within 19 points at the main break.

“Right from the first bounce we were very good. The attack on the ball was great and we were conscious not to get complacent,” she said.

It was the Buffettes who won last year’s title decider against the same opposition by 18 points.

“I didn’t go in there thinking about last year; I was just concentrating on this season,” O’Shea said.

“But it does feel good to get the silverware back.

“I love this club. It’s our family and we’ve spent a lot of time together — it’s awesome.

“All our supporters were here as well which was awesome.”
