HEARTBROKEN

Family and friends grieve for young woman killed in car crash

- PHILLIPPA BUTT

A YOUNG woman has been remembered as an adoring and loyal friend who had the ability to light up a room, after she was killed in a horror car crash in Alice Springs.

Friends have taken to Facebook to mourn the loss of Briar Manawanui Roach, saying they are “heartbroken”.

One friend posted her heart was “throbbing every second of the day”.

“Briar was the most adoring, loyal, headstrong, kind hearted and free spirited soul to ever cross mine and everybody else’s paths,” she posted.

“Her loud personality and ability to light up any room on the dullest of days was truly something to admire.

“You inspire me to be a better person with the way you carried yourself with such pride, beauty and grace.

“I wish wish wish (sic) I could hear her crack a dry joke or persuade me to have a good time with her just one more time.”

Ms Roach was killed when her car hit a tree on Bradshaw Dr about 3am yesterday.

It is understood the force of the impact pushed the young woman into the back seat.

NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services, along with St John Ambulance personnel, worked frantically to extricate Ms Roach from the wreckage but she was pronounced de- ceased at the scene. It is believed some of her friends were the first people to discover the wrecked car and called for help.

St John Ambulance spokesman Craig Garraway said emergency services “did everything they could to get her out”.

“No one else was in the car so we’re not really sure what happened,” he said.

“Looking at the car, it’s obviously (happened at) a reasonably high speed but we don’t know what’s actually occurred.”

The NT Police Southern Traffic Operations team and the Major Crash Investigations unit are carrying out investigations into the crash and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The Northern Territory road toll now sits at seven.
