Watch for looming Big Stink

- JOSH SPASARO

LAST-START winner Big Stink deserves to start favourite in the $1650 Holdfast Insurance Brokers Easter Cup heat one (537m) at Winnellie Park tonight.

Darwin trainer Brian Kelleher was happy with his victory in the CUB Sprint feature also over 537m last Sunday.

“He’s honest. He’ll run his 32.10-second times by the time the Easter Cup comes along,” Kelleher said.

“That should have him in contention.”

Dust and Sand (for Graeme Ferns), Phantom Henry (Jamie Hosking) and Smashniak Bullet (Brad Yates) will provide stiff competition.

Heat two of the Easter Cup and race six will see Andrew Lasker’s Unpossible line up as one of the favourites.

Big Stink ended the now two-year-old bitch’s winning run at seven last week.

Happy Glen and Real Stylist (both for Hosking), and Allen Ichiro (leading trainer Russell Savige) are the other ones to look out for.

The SBA Office National Golden Muzzle prelude has brought together a nice field of handy young performers.

Nash Road Kylie from box one for Hosking will go well, while Neve Arena (Savige) has good early speed, and the outside runners Eddie’s Hanger (Savige) and Town Hall Tully (Ron Phillips) are also in the mix.

In race one, the speedy Dainty Culprit (Savige) continues to impress and will give them something to catch.

Both Alotta Style (Savige) and Quick Foot for veteran trainer Richard Carr appear to be the leading contenders in race two.

Yates will be looking for strong performances from his charges Eight Roses and Smashniak Rocks who have the inside boxes in race four.

Swansea Shannon appears to have drawn nicely for Graeme Ferns in race five.

Handy performer Out There Jerry (Lasker) looks ideally suited in race eight, and from box eight should be hard to beat.

Vanessa Ferns has a strong say in race nine, with Dothraki (box one) and Abaloney (box three) engaged.

Elite Falcon has been racing solidly, and in the race 10 lineup can run a bold race for trainer Leta Smith.

First race is at 6.37pm.
