Packing like a star

Our Jess opens up her suitcase to share her travel tips

-

With millions of records sold, a string of top 10 hits, and appearances on Ellen and Oprah, Jessica Mauboy is puting her travel experiences to the test for her greatest overseas journey so far: representing Australia in the annual Eurovision Song Contest. MY PACKING STYLE IS …

Last minute! I’m pretty basic when I’m in holiday mode. If I was missing my togs, say, then I’d buy some. But for work, ooh, it’s a mission.

I PACK FOR A WORK TRIP BY …

Reading my schedule, which can arrive at anytime — sometimes even overnight — so I’ll often be packing and get organised in the early hours. I have a stylist who is also my best friend. Together we’ll work out the number of nights I’m on stage and plan the outfits together.

MY PACKING ESSENTIALS FOR EUROVISION INCLUDE …

My own make-up case as a back-up just in case my makeup artist loses hers. That’s a definite.

MY LUGGAGE IS …

From Tumi. Both my carry-on and check-in are hard cases. Both have fluoro pink and green locks so I know which ones are mine on the luggage carousel.

MY OUTFIT WHEN I TRAVEL …

Urban chic. I’ll wear something that won’t restrict me or be tight or uncomfortable — a long dress or jeans — plus my Pumas or Van trainers and then a denim jacket. But once I’m on-board I’ll change into my PJs straight away. I love Qantas pyjamas.

I NEVER BOARD A FLIGHT WITHOUT …

A little pillow in a silk case – anti-wrinkle, darling! – and vitamins to help counteract any in-air bugs. I also really try to take care of my skin. I really like to put on a face mask and I’m currently using one by Equal Beauty, which you can sleep in. I also use their serum and hydration spray when I’m on the plane too.

A WASH BAG STAPLE …

Currently Chanel “Chance” perfume and Lanolips 101 Ointment. You can pretty much use it for anything — dry lips, sticky up hairs, eyelids … everything! I love it.

MY TOP PACKING HACK …

Is to compartmentalise. I use different sections or cases for different things. For example, my shoes go in one case with my hair and makeup stuff and in the other case are my stage outfits and personal clothes.

MY BIGGEST PACKING MISTAKE …

When my Christophe Robin conditioner leaked in my makeup bag. I checked in my case at one end and then when I unpacked at the other I found that the top had popped open from the pressure — it was everywhere! As told to PAUL EWART
