Giants hit new high but hurt by injuries

-

GREATER Western Sydney’s injury-cursed AFL season has continued, but Rory Lobb and Daniel Lloyd’s setbacks have failed to stop the Giants crushing Gold Coast by a record 108 points at Spotless Stadium.

Lobb was taken to hospital for scans after a nasty blow to his ribs in the second quarter, while Lloyd hurt his knee, also in the second term.

Key forward Jeremy Cameron booted six goals yesterday, with Callan Ward and Josh Kelly both magnificent in the engine room for the hosts.

GWS was inaccurate early, kicking two goals from nine shots in the first term, but busted the game open to triumph easily, 20.14 (134) to 4.2 (26).

It is the Giants’ biggest win over any opposition, bettering last year’s 102-point belting of the Suns.

GWS, desperately out of form and down on confidence in May during a four-match losing streak, sits ninth on the ladder after backing up its breakthrough win over Adelaide in style.

The Suns trailed by 44 points at halftime and continued to fold meekly despite Lobb and Lloyd playing no part in the second half.

Gun midfielder Dylan Shiel was also helped off the field late in the second term after rolling his ankle, but he returned to help GWS smack the visitors.

Gold Coast big man Jarrod Witts was probably best for the Suns helping himself to 64 hitouts but the team had few other contributors .
