Concerns rising as crime spree hits Top End, Alice Springs
NT Police are seeking assistance from the public in relation to the unlawful entry of a business in Marrakai earlier this month.
On Friday, June 1 between 3.25am and 3.45am, three men arrived at the Corroboree Park Tavern on Arnhem Highway, about an hour southeast of Darwin in a grey or silver Commodore sedan. Two of the men got out of the car and gained entry into the building.
Once inside, the men stole a quantity of alcohol and cigarettes before being disturbed by an early-morning courier and fleeing the area in the Commodore.
Police are appealing to members of the public to assist in identifying the men and the vehicle captured in the CCTV footage stills.
The latest incident comes amid a series of crimes which has raised tensions throughout the Territory.
Dozens of cars at the Humpty Doo Park-and-Ride were also targeted this week while Nirvana Restaurant in the city was again broken into. Riding for the Disabled in Marlow Lagoon has suffered 18 robberies in the past two years.
MLA Terry Mills met Palmerston Mayor Athina PascoeBell this week to discuss the issue.
A rise in crime throughout Palmerston has triggered police to add an extra six officers to Strike Force Trident.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner also visited the area on Friday.
Crime, reportedly instigated by youths, has also became an even bigger issue in Alice Springs with a series of anti-social incidents.
