Zanchetta the wrecker for Darwin

-

DARWIN has come up trumps in its Premier Grade district cricket match against Palmerston, knocking off the Magpies by four wickets at Kahlin Oval yesterday.

A six-wicket haul from Luke Zanchetta (6-24) was the catalyst for Darwin’s victory, with assistance from Josh Doyle, who delivered a misery spell of 2-17 off 10 overs.

After batting first, Palmerston were bowled out in 36 overs, with openers Alex Bleakley (20) and Christian Leopard (20) getting starts and number four Azaiah Lange (21) also failing to convert his innings.

Darwin failed to take full toll of its opponents’ ability to solidify a start to its innings, losing 3/17 in response.

The boys from Cullen Bay were able to mount a resistance however, with Doyle (21), Marc Calkin (48) and Gerard Legge-Wilkinson (24 not out) combining to help get their side over the line.

Leopard and Kurt Johnson finished with two wickets each for Palmerston.

In other matches, Southern Districts piled on a huge 8/371 batting first against Nightcliff courtesy of centuries from Owen Lynch (137) and Joel Foster (106).

Tracy Village posted a competitive 172 all out from 62.2 overs, with Hamish Martin (42), Mitchell Reid (41), tailender Chris Reid (31) and gun batsman Chris Wakim (30) the main contributors.

Uli Van Duyker was the best of PINT’s bowlers, snaring 4-27 from 12 overs.

In response, PINT was 0-33 at close of play.
