Will’s one-hit wonder music to Palmerston
WESTERN Australia representative batsman Will Bosisto made his only appearance for Palmerston in the 2018 Darwin Premier Grade against Waratah at Gardens Oval yesterday, but teammates could not have asked for more.
The 24-year-old with 17 first-class appearances made a classy 116 from 113 balls to help his team register a stout 9-342.
The hosts were bowled out 99 runs short in 53 overs, despite star all-rounder James Seymour’s 101 from 129 balls.
“When you only come in for one game it makes things a bit different,” Bosisto said. “I was just trying to play a role, have fun and make the most of it.
“Early on, I thought it was a pretty poppy wicket, so I was looking for anything short to try and put over the square boundaries.
“We played pretty well after batting first on a wicket we would’ve liked to have bowled on.”
Bosisto and No.3 batsman Christian Leopard (24 off 17) took control early in the Power’s innings, before captain Alex Bleakley (71 off 93) combined with the centurion for an 85-run partnership.
“We got off to a really good start and kept the momentum going. Everyone right through the order played pretty well,” Bosisto said.
“Bleaks batted very well and so did Will (Hamilton, with 72 from 70) from New Zealand.
“Our two spinners (Kyle Gardiner 5-81 and Jayden Lennox 3-91) did a pretty good job tying them down in the middle overs.”
Josh Doyle (6-70) starred for Darwin in its tense threewicket win over Tracy Village at Kahlin Oval.
Despite Doyle’s wicket haul, Sam Underhill (64), Jake Doran (35) and Victorian representative paceman Jake Reed (54 off 53) helped the visitors to a competitive 230 all-out.
Jacob Dickman’s classy 92 off 116, assisted by consistent opener Henry Hunt’s 59, helped in getting the Eagles over the line.
“It was good to get some overs in and Luke Zanchetta (2-80) at the other end made it easier for me by bowling a lot of dots, then I got a few wickets at the end,” stand-in Darwin captain Doyle said.
“Reed played a good cameo. They were struggling a bit and he came out and hit some boundaries.
“When they started coming hard towards the changed up my pace.”
Zanchetta was highly impressed by Dickman’s innings.
“When Jacob’s switched on, he can do anything,” he said.
At Asbuild Oval, PINT legspinner Joel Logan (4-38) helped his first-placed team to a four-wicket win over Southern Districts.
The hosts could only manage 132 all-out but would have been confident of an upset after suspended Australian representative batsman Cameron Bancroft fell for 22.
However, PINT club legend Simon Lavers’s steady 67 at No.4 helped the visitors prevail. end, I
