Williams makes Razzle dazzle

-

RAZZLE men’s coach Monica Barolits said her team’s improved defence played a big part in its nailbiting 67-63 win over Lightning in Round 16 DBA League Season 1 action on Friday night.

“We worked hard on our defence over the break and it has improved,” she said.

“We were up against good opposition, so it took a real team effort to beat them.”

American import Fred Williams (24 points) and big man Jake Fauser (six points) were standouts for the winning team.

“Fred’s shooting performance was solid as always, and Jake brings a lot of height and speed,” Barolits said.

Razzle moved to outright fifth position with the win, but is still eight competition points behind fourth-placed Uni Rebels.

“This is the best position we’ve had on the ladder for a while, and the team is still improving,” Barolits said.

Rebels enjoyed a comfortable 91-71 win over Eagles.

John Hardy (28 points), Jason Nwisienyi (22) and Jake Kirby (19) starred for the winning outfit.

“We started slowly and were one point behind at quarter time,” Uni coach Malix Laurel said. “So we made some adjustments and our zone defence worked a lot better for the rest of the game.

“Jake’s shooting was hot, and Jason’s touch is very good.

“But he can power the ball inside and find our shooters well when he’s doubleteamed.”

In women’s League Season 1 action, Lightning enjoyed a big 94-27 win over Razzle. Claire Maree O’Bryan (42 points) had a massive night out for the winning outfit.

Ieasha Friel (35 points) also had a dominant evening for Rebels in their 67-53 win over Eagles.
