An ill-advised prang

YOU never know who you’ll bump into when hooning around Darwin in a stolen car. Early on Thursday morning, two teenagers – after the obligatory high-speed pursuit – crashed into Shane Mulhall. Mr Mulhall is what might modestly be described as a huge unit. He’s been on the straight and narrow for a few years now and told the NT News he was thankful he and his brother hadn’t been hurt in the crash. Mr Mulhall hasn’t always been so even-tempered. In 2001, when Troy Butcher bit off a part of Mr Mulhall’s mate’s ear, he and the mate blasted Butcher in the chest with shotguns. Bushranger reckons Mr Mulhall might be able to pass on a few life lessons to the teenager at victims’ conferencing.

Zero star rating

NOBODY likes paying council rates. What’s worse is when you do pay, and Darwin Council takes you to small claims court anyway. What’s even worse is when you’re a politician, and you get a phone call from the NT

News asking why you’re on the small claims court list. That’s what happened to Member for Port Darwin Paul Kirby on Wednesday. It also happened earlier in the year to Member for Fong Lim Jeff Collins. Darwin Council boss Scott Waters told Bushranger: “I can confirm that Paul Kirby is not in debt to council.” Mr Waters said he would give the council’s debt collectors a bollocking.

Shenzhen, Poland

THE Territory Government went out to the local business community inviting expressions of interest to join the Chief Minister’s business shindig to Shenzhen at the end of August. We know China is a large country but the map attached to the online invitation indicates that Shenzhen is located somewhere in Poland.

Missed calling

IN FRIDAY’S Letter Of The Day, Tiwi resident Sean Meaney alerted his neighbourhood of a dingo invasion due to repeated howling through the night. After reading the letter in Friday’s paper, however, another reader assured us we do not need to worry too much. He said they were his domesticated pet dingoes he had left at home while he went to the gym.

Great spot for a party

DARWIN Turf Club is promoting an afterparty following the running of the Darwin Cup on Monday, August 6. The DTC has been promoting the after-party through social media. There will be buses running from the Fannie Bay Racecourse to the 89 Laneway address in the CBD. The strip club Honey Pot is located at 89 Laneway. Discovery Darwin is at 89 Mitchell St. Should be one hell of an after-party.

Bad blood? Surely not

STILL on the Darwin Turf Club, it seems someone may not have taken the efforts of event organiser Russell Temple to put on a series of street parties around The Cavenagh Hotel very well. Bushie is informed that the DTC first of all cancelled its Calcutta event, which was supposed to be held at the Cav, and then moved its post-Carnival of Colour staff party from The Cav to Monsoons. Mr Temple works as a consultant to The Cav. So not only won’t it be hosting the Darwin Cup Ball, but it won’t get the Calcutta or the staff party either it seems.

Bipartisan?

DEPUTY Opposition Leader, Health spokeswoman and Spillett MLA Lia Finocchiaro has been placed on the Health waiting list. Ms Finocchiaro has reportedly made several requests for a tour of the new Palmerston Hospital in the past three months but has so far been denied. Meanwhile, the media has gone out there at least four times.
