Savige zeroes in on Sprint honours

- JOSH SPASARO

LEADING 2018 greyhound trainer Russell Savige appears to have the feature long-distance race at his mercy at Winnellie Park tonight.

Proven performers Bye Felicia, Allen Ichiro and Yaringa Lass are genuine chances in the $1650 Coolalinga Mowers Sprint (537m).

Savige’s other runner Miss Mamie is a handy type and his kennel’s main threat is Lost in Orbit, for Jamie Hosking.

Hosking ( 64 victories) is currently in second place on the DGA trainer-of-the-year ladder, 16 wins behind the veteran Darwin mentor.

Newcomer Prior Warning warrants close attention in race one, and Leta Smith has her team firing at the moment.

Abaloney appears to get into race two nicely, and trainer Nathan Toms would be expecting a forward showing.

Kennelmates Imitate and Elite Falcon (both for Smith) appear the major chances in race three, and both have drawn well enough.

Hosking has a strong say in race four, with Choice Way and Quintus Maximus running.

The Chris Blackmantrained Heartbreak Hotel looks to get another good chance in race five.

There is plenty of quality in race six, and last-start winner Distant Shores (Blackman) is in excellent form and right in the mix. But he will face stiff opposition from Darwin Cup winner Crocodile Crush, for Steele Bolton.

Hans Spykers has a newcomer who warrants attention in She’s Enough out of box one, as well as kennelmate Linda Belinda who is also in contention, in race seven.

Both Swansee (Graeme Ferns) and Ringbark Lana (Smith) were good last start, and could be hard to hold out in race eight.

Never Fear (Savige) is a speedy type and she may take running down in race 10.

Weeona Paddy (Bolton) is ideally drawn in box one and is a real danger, while both Vunivalu (Brad Yates) and Ain’t No Luck (Ron Phillips) are also entitled to claims.
