SLICK PINT ROUTS RIVALS

- GREY MORRIS

PALMERSTON’S district cricket premiership aspirations took a big upward curve yesterday when it beat Nightcliff by 198 runs at Cazalys Oval.

Five wickets from legspinner Kyle Gardiner was the catalyst that subdued the Tigers.

His 5-36 from 16 miserly overs played a big part in dismissing the opposition for 115 after Palmerston made 313 on day one.

Skipper Alex Bleakley watched his slow man demoralise the Tigers with a smile on his face.

“Kyle probably hasn’t had much a chance to bowl this season with the other guys doing the job for us,” Bleakley said.

“But it was his turn today and he did it beautifully.

“Now, we focus on the big one ahead of us with a game left in the season before the finals.”

PINT beat Waratah by 157 runs at Marrara, paceman Matt Bacon’s 3-26 from nine fiery overs the best return from the Greens’ bowlers.

Isaac Conway’s patient 35 from 96 balls prevented a complete rout of the Red Caps line-up, who drop to fourth on the ladder with the loss.

Tracy Village ended a tough year with a big win over Southern Districts at Fred’s Pass. Hamish Martin’s Villagers beat Districts by an innings and 90 runs to climb off the bottom of the ladder, bowling the home side out for 99 on the first day and a lowly 65 yesterday. Left-arm seamer Kyle Scrymegour destroyed the Districts batting line-up, grabbing 6-17 from his seven overs to combine with Jake Reed’s 4-30.

“It’s been pretty tough for all of us, but to end our season with a win like this is a good feeling and one we can build on next year,” he said.
