Hogan plays himself in new Dundee role

- FIONA BYRNE

COMEDY legend Paul Hogan is looking for laughs as he films a new movie recalling his Crocodile Dundee glory days.

The Aussie favourite was snapped shooting The Very Excellent Mr Dundee alongside former McLeod’s Daughters star Rachael Carpani.

A palatial Victorian family home provided the setting for the scenes, with Hogan rugged up against the Melbourne morning chill as he took a cigarette break.

Hogan, 78, is playing himself in the much talked-about project directed by Dean Murphy. The film finds Hogan playing himself and on the brink of receiving a knighthood for services to comedy.

He is warned by his manager “Don’t do anything to mess this up”, and despite his best efforts, the next six weeks sees his name and reputation destroyed.

While no supporting cast has been announced, it is expected Shane Jacobson will be joining Hogan on the project.

“Watch this space as I’ve been honoured to have many of my friends and colleagues, whose work I adore, agree to join us for this hilarious new adventure,” said Hogan in a statement when the project was announced in June.

The movie will be filmed in Los Angeles and Vancouver as well as Australia.

Hogan reignited interest in his iconic Crocodile Dundee character by appearing in an advertisement for Tourism Australia early this year alongside Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Margot Robbie.

The NT News has campaigned for Hogan to make another sequel. TERRITORY blokes are known for their love of fishing, hunting, beer and double pluggers. But today, NT fellas are swapping hi-vis vests for collared shirts, as they compete for the title of Mr British Empire.

It’s the Australian debut of the men’s pageant, and accounting student Simon Sutcliffe will be strutting his stuff on stage this afternoon.

Mr Sutcliffe said while he had never entered a competition like this before, he hoped to make it through to the national finals and score a free trip to Perth.

“I thought it’d be a good opportunity, and something different,” he said. “I’m hoping to win – you never count yourself out.”

Mr Sutcliffe was more worried about the interview than the catwalk, and urged Territory blokes to head along and support the local event.

Crazy Sexy Cool International NT regional manager Stephanie ParisBerlin, who is managing the pageant, echoed Mr Sutcliffe’s comments and wanted to take the stigma out of pageants.

“The modelling opportunity beyond this pageant is huge – 2016 Darwin winner Angel Williams went to London and Greece for the world championships – and has now been offered contracts around the world,” she said.

The pageant will be held at the Beachfront Hotel this afternoon, with contestants on stage from 2pm.
