NEWS Expats sing our praises

-

MORE than 250 people have subscribed to the Territory’s expat program just over two weeks after the launch of the Territory’s population growth strategy.

The Territory expats program, which will launch in full in coming weeks, aims to reconnect and re-engage with former (or wannabe) Territorians.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner said creating more jobs for locals by growing our population “benefits all Territorians”.

“It means more customers, more quotes, more job applicants, better services and, importantly, more GST,” he said.

“We know that people who come to the Territory often stay for much longer than they expected to, and that most leave the Territory very satisfied.

“This means former Territorians – expats – are a great resource to tell the Territory story to the world. They’re our best salespeople.”

Research shows that the vast majority of Territory expats are satisfied with their time in the Territory and this means Territory expats are a rich pool of advocates, and potential returnees.

The program will forge and facilitate connections between Territory businesses, organisations, news, events and initiatives and the expats, and provide a mutual benefit.

Of the 259 subscribers so far, there are 58 who used to live in the Territory, 49 who are interested in the Territory, 150 who are thinking of moving to the Territory and two who have visited or are thinking of visiting the Territory.

Every year, about 25,000 people are born in, or arrive to live in the Territory from interstate or overseas. In recent times, just below 17,000 residents each year have departed to other states and 4700 departed overseas.
