Surge in numbers at open houses in NT

- LAUREN ROBERTS

FOUR times as many people are visiting open homes in Darwin this weekend compared with figures over the last few weeks, according to Sotheby’s Realty Darwin sales manager Jamie Pollock.

“It’s a massive increase, just phenomenal,” he said. “I’ve noticed that not only did we get a real spike in the number of people we’ve never spoken to before, but an increase in the calls from people we spoke to more than six months ago and then went into radio silence.”

Mr Pollock put the surge down to the NT Government’s new home ownership package, which offered first home buyers up to $50,601 to build a new home and up to $28,601 to buy an established home. Mr Pollock said potential homebuyers were keen to know what they could claim.

“It’s pretty interesting, actually, the headlines have broken the drought,” he said.

Mr Pollock said it would be another three weeks before the higher attendance numbers at open houses translated into actual sales, but he was optimistic.
