REIGNITING DARWIN

-

Tourism: We need to get our locals engaging with tourists and in the process, turn our CBD, in particular the Smith Street Mall into a hive of fun and inclusion. Get the locals into the CBD in the process to discover how amazing our Mall and its surrounds are. We need City of Darwin to allow us permission to have pop ups, buskers and Smith Street Mall markets and entertainment during this time. CBD and Surrounds Revitalisation: The empty commercial property is a problem and we need to get landlords on-board with helping us to bring activities and businesses into those spaces. We could for instance, look at the prospect of collaborative spaces, where several businesses can share the lease that otherwise would be out of reach due to costs. Buy Local: We have so many great businesses out there, but times are tough for quite a few. We are getting Darwin behind these businesses and encouraging a spirit of collaboration, as opposed to competition. How can we work together, to thrive together? We are creating events throughout Darwin, where we visit local businesses for lunch or dinner to lift the spirits of business owners and let them know that we are behind them. Greening Projects: We already have the Guerilla Gardener of Darwin, who for the last 20 years has been greening the place, street-by-street under the cover of darkness. He funds this project himself and invests considerable time to plant trees and other plants, which he then maintains. Once Darwin Reignite is incorporated as a not-forprofit, we will ideally endorse him as a grassroots initiative. Social Projects: We are committed to doing what we can to help members of Darwin Reignite who are busy with their own grassroots initiatives and one such initiative that has grown since Darwin Reignite first started just three weeks ago, is Leah Potter and her family’s crusade to feed homeless people in Darwin.
