Youths take car on 730km joyride NT cattleman splurges on station

-

THREE youths are in custody after allegedly stealing a car and taking it on a 730km journey to Yarralin.

The youths stole the car from Darwin and were tracked by police, who followed their path out to the remote community south of Timber Creek. The youths are alleged to have committed several offences along the way at Adelaide River and Katherine.

Police caught up with the youths yesterday and arrested them midafternoon. Officers were yesterday evening transferring them to Katherine, where investigators will speak with them. The youths were unlikely to have been charged yesterday due to the remoteness of where they were found.

It is not known what type of car they stole, when they stole it or if more youths were involved. A TERRITORY cattleman has snapped up a Queensland station. Consolidated Pastoral Company sold its Mimong Station in Queensland’s north west to Sterling Buntine.

It’s understood the station was sold for $20 million.

The 80,000-hectare prop- erty, was sold without stock.

CPC was running about 9000 head of cattle on the station.

Sterling Buntine owns cattle properties in the Barkly region and the Kimberley in Western Australia.

In 2016 he was part of a group of pastoralists who made an unsuccessful $385 million bid for the S Kidman and Co properties. Mimong Station is the fifth CPC property to be sold since the company officially went on the market as a whole purchase or in parts in March 2018.
