Stories to tell through NT journal
AVID Territory writers can share their stories and writing through a new literary journal being produced by three literary scholars, their own account of NT history.
Territory writer Raelke Grimmer said she and her colleagues Adelle Sefton-Rowston and Glenn Morrison were hoping to collate a number of stories across the NT this year for an online publication, before making a hard copy next year. “There needs to be a place for high-quality literary writing from Territorians,” she said. “It’s for emerging storytellers as well to foster a place for them to publish.”
Ms Raelke said there were many unique stories from the Territory which came thanks to the diverse culture and the journal would allow them to be told in unique ways.
“We’re really hoping to get diverse voices, so some translations and multilingual stories in other languages, stories from remote areas and regions,” she said.
“For the online project, we’re hoping to get photo sto- ries, audio story telling and video storytelling as well.
“Those are stories that should be told by people from the Territory.”
With funding from Regional Arts Fund and Creative Partnerships Australia, the team hopes to raise $10,000, which will be matched by the MATCHLab program, to pay contributors for their work.
The project will be launched today at the Northern Territory Library, where writers and storytellers are invited to find out more and flag their interest in submitting.
