DSO celebrates with a galaxy of sci-fi hits
DARWINITES will be transported into the depths of the galaxy tonight at the Darwin Symphony Orchestra’s spacethemed musical extravaganza.
DSO in Space is the first concert of the orchestra’s 30th anniversary season.
Artistic director and chief conductor Jonathan Tooby was thrilled to present audiences with intergalactic classics, including the Star Wars and
E.T. soundtracks. “DSO in Space is set to be a fantastic concert to entertain the whole family,” Mr Tooby said. “Curating the repertoire for DSO in Space presented a wonderful opportunity to weave classics with beloved pieces from popular film and television, creating something everyone will enjoy.”
Prior to the event, Mr Tooby will hold a preconcert talk on the inner workings of the performance.
The concert will be hosted by Darwin comedian Amy Hetherington.
The audience is encouraged to dress up as their favourite space-themed characters, with prizes for the most out of this world costumes.
“We’re really hoping to see lots of people turn out in their best space costumes,” Mr Tooby said.
“I’m picturing Buzz Lightyears, Leias, Dr Who, even some aliens and stars. We want the whole audience to shine.”
DSO in Space will begin at 6.30pm at the Darwin Convention Centre.
