Powerful denials

THE pollies swear they don’t care where they come in the NT News’ 120 Most Powerful List. But that was exposed as a dirty rotten lie in the explosive leaked Facebook message conversation between MLAs Jeff Collins, Sandra Nelson, Chansey Paech and Scott McConnell. “Who in the hell puts together the NT News top 100 list of influential people????!!!” Nelson asked the group. “Some of the names , WTF ...” Paech outed his Cabinet superiors for caring more than they let on. “Seen today’s it’s Kenny and Tash It’s so funny but I know the cabinet ministers are upset that They didn’t make it LOL.”

Art of the storm

ABC Darwin radio producer Robert Baird was thinking critically about Cyclone Trevor’s mighty wrath. “I suppose once Cyclone Trevor passes through the NT the piles of rubbish and detritus will be neatly arranged into sculptures?” he tweeted.

Body of opinion

LABOR’S 20 caucus commandments, revealed by the NT News last week, provided an interesting insight into what it must be like to serve as a Labor MLA. One of the stranger commandments was to display “positive body language”. Brennan MLA

Tony Sievers has taken this to heart — he is known as the Territory’s Minister for Thumbs Up.

Look on the bright side

The scribblers down at the Katherine Times had different priorities when it came to reporting on Cyclone Trevor.. “Hoping for a cyclone,” the paper’s page two headline read. “The NT has an unusual wish for a tropical cyclone to pay a visit on the tail end of the disappointing wet season,” the yarn has it. The Times goes on to note the town’s March rainfall total had only reached a “measly” 29mm. We’re sure the thoughts and prayers of residents evacuated to Katherine from Borroloola, Ngukurr, Urapunga and Numbulwar will be with their hosts’ dry garden beds at this difficult time.

Spelling spray

EARLIER this week vandals with a can of white spray paint swept through Gunn in Palmerston, leaving a trail of crude and grammatically incorrect markings. Residents shared photos to Facebook with one image showing ‘thic huse look sh*t’ sprayed along Davenport Ct. Like Bushie, residents were more concerned about the lack of correct spelling and grammar, with comments on the post saying ‘my old huse is on this street’ and ‘This is stewpid’.

Parting blast

FORMER MLA Marion Scrymgour was this week appointed the Northern Land Council’s fourth chief executive in five months. The land council has been, to put it mildly, a vipers’ nest at the moment. Ms Scrymgour at least knows how to give as good as she can take. In a foul-mouthed Facebook rant after she left the organisation, she described former colleagues at the Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service as a “bunch of dumb f*cking ignorant twits”. She said the organisation was full of “hired henchmen” responsible for “bullying and harassment”. She said she quit because she had “wasted energy on idiots”, which was like “flogging a dead horse”. She later told an NT News scribe: “In hindsight it was inappropriate to comment in that way”.
