Interstate invaders vie for Cup

-

THERE are 10 competitive races on offer at Winnellie Park tonight, the $34,000 Ladbrokes Group 3 Darwin Cup being the main event.

The Cup has brought together a highly impressive field of topline interstate greyhounds.

The Western Australian contingent of Graeme Crudelli and James Jeffries have five dogs between them in the final, and possibly their best chances are Two Times Twice for Crudelli and Tom’s Desire for Jeffries.

They will not have it their own way as experienced campaigner Stephen Whyte will have Weeona Jimmy primed and box one is ideal for him, while South Australian visitor Troy Murray has the classy Spring Cuervo engaged as well as Waterloo Monelli.

The Cup Consolation has six Darwin runners who are vying for prizemoney.

The Harry Brown pair of Spring Double and Eight Green Cans will be competitive against the likes of the Ron Phillips pair No Stress and Rioli.

Top End trainer Leta Smith could be in for a good night with Elite Falcon and Ringbark Lana in race three, and Prior Warning in race nine all with strong chances.

Steele Bolton also will be hoping for some success as he has five out of the eight runners in race four, Snoop A Loop his main contender.

Other notable chances include Junk Yard Digger in race two for Phillips, Weeona Roger in the Cup Consolation for Whyte and Fabulous Chance in race seven for Chris Blackman.

Racing commences at 6.06pm NT time and gates will be open from 3pm, with a big crowd expected.
