WHY WE’LL SPOIL OUR AWESOME DAD ON FATHER’S DAY

- JUDITH AISTHORPE judith.aisthorpe@news.com.au

ETHAN, 12, and Chloe, 11, Warthold love nothing more than spending time with their dad.

The two will take their dad, Dustin Warthold, out for breakfast before doing some of their favourite activities like swimming and bike rides to East Point.

For Chloe, Father’s Day is about celebrating having a good, fun dad.

“He’s a good dad because he’s always funny and makes us laugh,” she said.

Mr Warthold will be showered with homemade presents crafted by Ethan and Chloe.

Ethan said they had plans to spend the entire day together making memories.

“We are going to wake up and what we usually do is wake dad up and put all his gifts around him and spend as much time with him,” Ethan said. “We take him out to breakfast, we spend the whole day with him and spend as much time with him as we can because we love our dad.” Ethan said what made his dad one of a kind was that he was caring, understanding and is always on your side.

Mr Warthold said for him the day was about family and spending time with the people he cared about.

He said the whole weekend had been a celebration of family with yesterday spent at East Point and swimming in the pool. He said they normally participate in Run With Dad but had decided to relax and sleep-in this year.

He said the role of fatherhood was important but sometimes not seen.

Nevertheless raising children was a team effort by both parents.

He said a moment that sticks in his mind and cemented the importance of being a great dad was when Chloe recently thanked her mum for all that she did for her. “She (mum) sort of stuck up for me and said ‘what about Dad? He takes you to sport and teaches you values and backs me up when you don’t want to do something’,” he said.

He hopes his kids will pick up some of the things he’s been trying to teach them and take those values through life.

“I guess you want to teach them values, treat people well, lead by example, not to drink too much or to do stuff you don’t want your kids doing, to encourage them to do sport and live their life well and study hard and to be a kind person,” he said.
