A bit of credit, please

DEAR Greg and Ali at Mix 104.9 and other offenders in the radio industry. We know you love and respect our content in the NT

News and take pleasure in talking about our stories, often word for word, but if you could give us a credit – even once in a while – that would be very much appreciated by our journalists who have worked hard to source, write and publish those articles. We promise we will love you forever. Thanks.

Aussie Kon?

PATRONS at Darwin’s Mitchell St eatery, Noodle House, had a double take when famous Greek Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis’ mobile phone rang at lunch on Thursday. His ringtone was the Australian national anthem. Shocked, some patrons asked “what was that about?” His response: “When my Aussie friends call me, their anthem sounds out but when my Greek friends call me, it’s the Greek national anthem!” Nice one, Kon.

Bullshit!

CHIEF Minister Michael Gunner says it’s “bullshit” that his decision on reopening the borders has anything to do with the election on August 22. Some, too, may consider it bullshit that any decision a politician makes isn’t made with votes in mind.

Flamingo a loser

REAL Estate Central sales professional and Beachfront Hotel quiz host Chris Clarke was hand-picked to represent the Territory on

Sunrise’s National Pub Quiz, hosted by weather presenter Sam Mac. Despite fierce competition, the Territory came in last. Clarke however took the chance to promote the NT and rode a giant inflatable pink flamingo, and plugged the beautiful weather and our lack of COVID-19 cases. Bushie just wonders why it wasn’t an inflatable croc.

Snakes alive!

IT SEEMS crocs in the cabinet have made way for snakes in the carpark at NT Parliament House. In an email sent out on Thursday, Parliament House security warned a snake had been spotted in the secure carpark on level 1 under the Speakers Green. “The snake handler has been called,” the email read. “Please be aware if you have to go down to that area.” Bushie reckons you should watch your back on the fifth floor at all times too.

Breaking the mould

THE Opposition this week announced Jed

Hansen as the CLP candidate for Wanguri (currently held by Treasurer Nicole Manison). The party described him as a “small businessman” who became “actively involved in youth affairs” upon moving to Darwin in 1996. A dive into the NT News archives revealed Mr Hansen was also an avid breakdancer in the early 2000s, complete with those baggy denim jean-shorts. How do you do fellow kids?

It’s a fair cop

THIS week NT Police have been stopping at businesses making sure they are complying with new social distancing regulations. Two officers stopped by Larrakeyah’s CAFE 21 who seemed to be doing everything right, including allocating one door for entry and one door for exit. But it seems after collecting their coffees the cops had a little trouble reading the signs, exiting straight through the entry. Bushie’s spy, for the record, made a point of walking out through the right exit.
