Time for men to speak up

-

THIS week is Men’s Health Week and Family Planning NT say there’s never been a better time than now for all men to consider their health and wellbeing.

With the focus on men’s health throughout the whole week, they are asking Territory men “is your sexual and reproductive health important?”

Over the past few years there has been a strong focus on women, while men’s “private

business” has remained a relatively silent topic.

Recent trends, however, indicate that progress is being made in breaking down some of the barriers to men’s sexual and reproductive health, with the number of men visiting Family.

Planning NT clinics increasing.

This increase is a step in the right direction, as reproductive health problems are common.

With an estimated one in three men having a problem below the belt, it’s important for men to look after themselves.

In addition to the direct issues experienced from reproductive health problems, these can also be an early warning sign for other serious health problems like cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Regular sexual health check-ups are easy to arrange.

Family Planning NT offers a wide range of clinical services in reproductive and sexual health during weekdays and on Saturday mornings for men, with clinics open in Coconut Grove and Palmerston.
