Chandler may run in Brennan

- JASON WALLS jason.walls1@news.com.au

FORMER Country Liberal Party Education Minister Peter Chandler is considering another tilt at his former seat of Brennan at the coming Territory election.

Mr Chandler said that while he hadn’t made a final decision, he still had a “burning desire” to re-enter the political arena after getting feedback from Palmerston locals unhappy with the present government.

“I’ve considered very seriously running, potentially as an independent but I also appreciate that it’s going to take more than one man to fix the NT,” he said.

“It’s going to take a team and I think it’ll take a community to fix this place, and there’s certainly a tough road ahead, there’s no doubt about it.”

If elected, Mr Chandler said he would focus on growing the Territory’s economy by taking advantage of the NT’s abundant natural resources.

“For too long the NT has chased one particular dream — you look at Inpex, great company, great changes to the NT — but we still have a government that’s broke,” he said.

“How is that possible when we’ve got these natural resources?”
