Great Wave a fruitful slice of art from Cindy

-

VISITORS to the Waterfront will now be greeted with a Great Wave of Watermelon after the unveiling of the latest entrant in the Darwin Street Art Festival.

The colourful creation is by teacher and artist Cindy Brennan, who says she was inspired by the famous Japanese woodblock print The Great Wave of Kanagawa.

“It was just bit of a playful take on wordplay and the Japanese wave, and the art that has always been embedded in my work,” she said.

“Also, Darwin being so tropical and lively and colourful, that inspired it as well.”

Ms Brennan said she was thrilled to be a part of the Street Art Festival after arriving from Perth three years ago.

“Probably the first thing I noticed was the art in the city,” she said. “So when I found out it was a festival I was really keen to get involved.”
