PARTY: Labor
LEADER: Michael Gunner
The Territory Labor government has saved lives and jobs because of our hard borders. If coronavirus was let loose in the Territory under the CLP’s open borders policy, more jobs would have been lost.
By protecting Territorians during the coronavirus, we’ve put ourselves on the map as the safest place in Australia. That’s our best asset right now.
Once we are through this crisis, the Territory will be Australia’s comeback capital through a jobled recovery, with a pipeline of huge projects like the $20bn Sun Cable project, which will bring more jobs and more people to the Territory.
We know the loss of workers after the Inpex boom and the CLP’s inability to plan for it hit the Territory hard.
This is why Territory Labor has been doing everything possible to protect jobs. Because protecting jobs keeps Territorians here.
We are throwing the kitchen sink at saving jobs — with the Small Business Survival Fund, the Home Improvement Scheme, cutting payroll and power bills, and tourism vouchers for locals.
Our actions have helped save nearly 7000 Territorian jobs during this crisis. The CLP will cut jobs, just like they did last time when they sacked hundreds of Territory workers.
And we are investing in the Territory’s future — to attract more people and more jobs.
This includes upgrades to infrastructure from Alice to Darwin; massive investments through Turbocharging Tourism — including opening more campgrounds at Litchfield National Park; transforming the capital’s CBD into a greener, cooler, more exciting place to be through street art and new parks; fighting for a National Aboriginal Art Gallery in Alice Springs; and investing in new industries.
This how we rebound to protect jobs, create new jobs and retain our population. Only Territory Labor can provide the strong and stable leadership to deliver this.
