The Country Liberal Party wants to grow the Northern Territory’s population and has a plan to do it. It’s very simple.

Without job opportunities, it’s very difficult to increase our population. That is why the CLP’s primary focus will be attracting private sector investment to create jobs across a whole range of industries.

Under Labor, proposed large-scale job creating projects haven’t progressed, often because of the mire of red tape they have to deal with.

The CLP will work hard to get those large-scale projects off the ground through a new statutory Office of the Territory

Coordinator that will work to smoothly facilitate their approval.

The CLP’s other initiatives to attract job creating business investment in the Territory include slashing government approval time frames by 50 per cent, simplifying mining tax, developing a responsible onshore gas industry, offering incentives for manufacturing businesses to locate at a new hub at Middle Arm, and planning to connect our energy grids to the east coast so we can sell clean power to the rest of Australia.

These policies will attract business investment, meaning more jobs, meaning more people have reasons to move to the Northern Territory and set up their lives here. A CLP government will freeze residential power and water prices for four years, not only to ease the cost of living burden for Territorians, but to give newcomers peace of mind.

We know crime is a deterrent to new people moving to the Territory as well. A CLP government will tackle crime by strengthening bail laws and make sure offenders face consequences, which in turn sends a strong message that bad behaviour won’t be tolerated. We will also address youth crime.

Making the Territory safer for new families will encourage them to come in the first place, but then to stay as well.

The CLP is committed to population growth and our fundamental plan will encourage it.
