Crocs collapse again as Tahs romp home

- GREY MORRIS grey.morris@news.com.au

REIGNING district cricket premier Southern Districts have suffered another major batting collapse in their 10wicket loss to premiership rivals Waratah yesterday.

Seven days after being dismissed for 69, the Crocodiles’ batting line-up struggled against the Tahs’ fast men.

Their batsmen were undone by swing and bounce for a paltry 9-56 batting first on their Fred’s Pass wicket.

Skipper Kierran Voelkl and No.7 Lachlan Markey were the only batsmen to reach double figures.

Right arm quick Himesh Sandaradura was the destroyer, grabbing 5-12 from 8.4 overs, including the first four wickets to fall.

Three of his victims failed to score, opener Ryan Clark and No.4 bat Jackson Isakka edging outswingers to the wicketkeeper and No.3 Dean Fry falling leg before wicket.

Waratah openers James Seymour (33no) and Isaac Conway (16no) reached their 57-run target comfortably.

Tahs skipper Conway praised his two opening bowlers for their disciplined bowling in conditions that suited them.

“We certainly expected a tougher contest against Districts who beat us easily the first time we played them,’’ a cautious Conway said.

“Now we have to reproduce that form in the final given we have the bye in the last minor round.’’

Palmerston found some batting and bowling form against Tracy Village, bowling the home side out for 100 and passing it with five wickets down.

Skipper Alex Bleakley’s unbeaten half century and a five-wicket haul by young off-spinner Cameron Hyde were highlights.

The Shelton-Summers show was the big attraction at Kahlin Oval.

Darwin captain Luke Shelton’s half century and five wickets from fast man Aaron Summers sealed a three-wicket win over PINT.

TODAY’S cricket action features the final of the TIO Strike League at DXC Arena, formerly known as Marrara Cricket Ground.

The Desert Blaze and Southern Storm are locked at 1-all going into the 2pm decider on the No.1 oval.

The Blaze won last week’s second game easily when they choked the Storm’s batting line-up.

Both sides have proven matchwinners with bat and ball in what promises to be a big scoring T20 game.
