Lambley happy to work with CLP

Lambley no longer alone in fight for ‘best deal’ for constituents

- MADURA MCCORMACK

TERRITORY Alliance’s sole MLA will shift to “work more productively” with the government and the opposition to secure the best deal for the Red Centre.

Araluen MLA Robyn Lambley, who this week confirmed she would be staying on with the fledgling party for now, at least until the dust settles post a bruising election, said she felt like the sole opposition MP representing the interests of Central Australians for the last four years. But with the CLP’s numbers boosted from two to eight, Ms Lambley said she no longer had to shoulder the burden of being the only Central Australian MLA available to hold the government to account in parliament.

NT Labor’s numbers have been significantly reduced in the seats in and around the Red Centre, losing the seats of Braitling, Namatjira and Barkly.

Remote Housing and Arts Minister and Gwoja MLA Chansey Paech, who is based out of Alice Springs, will be Labor’s only voice south of Palmerston.

Saying she was “delighted” with the size of the opposition now, Ms Lambley said her goal would be to move toward working “more productively” with government and the CLP to secure the “best deal” for Alice Springs and Central Australia.

Opposition Leader Lia FInocchiaro said her party would “work with all independents and crossbenchers” to hold the government to account

Ms Lambley this week confirmed she would stay on with Territory Alliance, for now, as party members, including herself, assess the damage and “work on decisions for the future”.
