CHARLES Darwin University staff will know their fate and the magnitude of proposed changes next week.

Plans of major proposed changes to CDU’s Vocational Education and Training sector were revealed in the NT News two weeks ago.

The NT News understands the changes could affect more than 50 jobs and as many as 200 students.

The NT News obtained a copy of the latest email sent to staff late Friday afternoon which read:

“After many months of work across the university it is anticipated we will be ready to release a change proposal to unify VET and HE across all campuses next week.

“This work has been done at the direction of CDU Council to repair the budget and position CDU on a sustainable path towards growth.

“In accordance with our enterprise agreement, the next step in the change process will be to meet with our unions to outline what will be released for consultation. Deans, pro vice chancellors and managers will contact their staff to arrange meetings at which they will explain the change proposal.

“If you will be on leave next week please contact the office of your respective dean, pro vice chancellor or manager to provide your preferred form of contact.

“Once the change proposal has been released there will be a period of three weeks’ communication and consultation with all staff and the collation of feedback and input regarding the change proposal.”

CDU says any change will follow the requirements of the enterprise agreement and proper notifications and consultation with unions and all staff. The university said no announcements would be made until after college deans had met individually with staff directly affected.

This is not the first time the university has had to make sweeping job cuts. Around the same time last year it made cuts to its Vocational Education and Training sector.
