Rangers on the hunt for rule breakers

- BART IRWIN NT FIELD AND GAME

THE times they are a changin’. On November 1, the daily start time for waterfowl hunting clicked back a couple of notches to 5.50am.

Please be aware that this is the start time for November, December and the last four days of the season in early January. This is a slight change from previous years where it came back in a 15minute increment.

Minister Eva Lawler has kindly taken the advice from NT Field and Game to standardise the latter part of the season to reduce confusion.

The daily finish time moves to 7.15pm in November and 7.30pm for December and January.

The NT Hunt Mate app is a great resource for hunters unsure of the changing conditions of the permit, and can be viewed in the field.

Know these conditions because the “Khaki Bombers” lurk everywhere, and I have heard of infringement notices already being handed out for shooting early.

Rangers are doing their job and doing it well.

Beware also that hunters should make sure they cannot be pinged for littering.

All empty shells around you could be attributed to you, so please carry a shopping bag to collect yours and any lying in your vicinity.

Where possible leave the place better than you found it. Hunters will find this very self-satisfying.

NT Field and Game members collected two trailer loads of rubbish from the bins at Lambells Lagoon two weeks ago. I was extremely impressed with hunter behaviour, with almost no litter on the ground.

The NT Field and Game clay target range is open more now, with Thursday sessions from 12.30pm-3pm added to Friday 4pm-8.30pm and Sunday 9am-noon.

Practice on Thursday and

Sunday is EFTPOS only and everyone is welcome. The range is at the Mickett Creek Shooting Complex, Brandt Rd, Knuckey Lagoon. Look for the big shotgun shells.
