Battle for top dog at next level

- GREG ALDAM

THE much-hyped fight for Greyhound of the Year honours will go to whole new level when Snoop A Loop (for Steele Bolton, pictured) and He’s All Grunt (Andrew Lasker) go head-to-head in the last race of the evening on an eight race program at Winnellie Park tonight.

He’s All Grunt has led the competition for a large part of 2020, however, in recent times Snoop A Loop has struck a purple patch in form, and after his win on Wednesday, the Bolton runner has taken the lead in this prestigious award.

Over 383m there should not be a lot between the pair, although they would want to be at their best, as the likes of the Joel Vansleve-trained Pacino and another Lasker runner, in Villa Park, have plenty of ability and are racing well.

To start proceedings, new trainer Adam Poulter continues to chalk up his share of winners and Delerra is backing up after a smart win last Wednesday. She appears to be hard to beat in the first, although Non Plussed for Lasker does loom as a danger.

Graeme Ferns appears to have a number of chances, including Sunset Licorice in race two, who should be suited over the 383m journey, while Gus The Weapon should relish box eight in race five, and Bow Axel in race seven, if he can improve his box manners, has the ability to win that event.

Other notable hopes include Front Bar Bessie in race four for Ron Phillips, who would also be hoping for a strong performance from Tiara’s Miss in race six, while the lightly-raced Umpire for Bolton should appreciate box eight in race seven and is right in the mix.

Racing commences at 7.07pm, NT time, with it being free entry once again.
