PRESS MINDER … OR BABYSITTER?

PRESCHOOL was back in session on Tuesday, and no we’re not talking about Question Time. Chief Minister Michael Gunner decided to bring his son along to Ludmilla Primary School for a press event, but when it came time to front up to the media, his press secretary Kym Morgan was spotted running around taking care of MiniGunner. Bushie wonders whether these responsibilities are officially part of Morgan’s contract.

GUESS WHO’S BACK

IT WAS curious to note former Daly MLA Gary Higgins was sitting in the gallery watching parliament on Wednesday morning. Higgins left his seat of Daly and stepped down from the CLP after giving the seat over to now-resigning MLA Ian Sloan. Bushie wonders what his appearance signifies, given Daly is a knife-edge seat heading towards a by-election.

‘JUST POPPED OUT TO THE OFFICE’

POLITICIANS aren’t ever going to see eye-to-eye on everything, but it’s gotten so bad that they now can’t even agree on what they’ve seen with their own eyes. CLP leader Lia Finocchiaro last week left a particularly nasty Question Time early, that much we know. While Finocchiaro claims she left to go up to her office, Labor have cast events as her “abandoning her party”. A day later there was then a rigorous debate on the floor of parliament about the exact time Finocchiaro left the chamber. What a fantastic waste of taxpayer-funded time.

LEGAL(?) ADVICE

A TERRITORY judge has imparted a bit of extra advice to a man who was fronting court on driving-related offences. Judge Cavanagh told a man who fronted Alice Springs Local Court to “go and buy a Tatts lottery ticket” after he “nearly killed himself” when caught drink-driving while unlicensed.

THROUGH TO THE KEEPER

SPORTING fans would’ve been impressed by the quick wit of NT deputy speaker Joel Bowden, who needed to clamp down on some unruly parliamentarians last week. “Enough of the commentary, that’s for Richie Benaud and Tony Greig,” Mr Deputy Speaker said, eliciting some chortles both sides of the chamber.

BEERS, BEERS, BEERS

Shout out to comedian Jimmy Rees on his impression of the NT – good stuff. In his Facebook series Meanwhile In Australia, the NT regularly gets a look in, particularly referencing our love of beer. But Jimmy, there’s always room for improvement. We love our crocs too!
