Tender builds revised strategy
THE Territory government is taking a key step in its plan for a new form of social and affordable housing that is more effective and cost efficient.
The tender process for its new Community Housing Strategy has started.
Territory Families and Urban Housing Minister Kate Worden said the tender would lead to better public housing, better communities and stimulate economic growth in the construction and other industries.
“This year we released the Community Housing Growth Strategy 2021-2030 Discussion Paper seeking input from key stakeholders on promoting growth of the sector in the Kate Worden Northern Territory,” Ms Worden said.
“Finding new and innovative ways to revamp our public housing model which supports jobs, tenants and local communities is a win for the Territory.
“The strategy will include a pipeline of initiatives, investments and works, including redevelopment opportunities and managing the construction of additional public housing dwellings across the Territory.
“Our vision is to work with key stakeholders to develop a contemporary and affordable housing sector which benefits communities.”
Territory-wide, almost 1000 dwellings are managed by community housing providers.
“It is important that we continually look at our public housing assets and see how sites can be redeveloped or managed to deliver the best outcomes for tenants and communities,” Ms Worden said.
