MARTIN GETS SIX AGAINST NIGHTCLIFF
HAMISH Martin brings a wealth of maturity along with his all-round skills at Palmerston.
Yet, he’s still only 22.
And after snaring a highly-impressive 6-66 from 21 overs for Palmerston against Nightcliff at Cazalys Oval, you cannot fault him for still dreaming of picking up a first-class contract.
Martin was instrumental in the Power’s 86-run win over the Tigers, who put up a spirited run chase before being bowled out for 339 hunting a mammoth target of 426.
Ryan McElduff – tipped to fire for City Cyclones in the T20 Strike League – led that committed resistance with 141 from 188 balls, with 18 fours and two sixes.
But the day belonged to Martin, who picked up five of the last six wickets. He now has 31 wickets across all 2021 Darwin Premier matches.
“It was good. I’ve been pretty consistent all year, but that was my first five-for this year and my first at Palmerston,” Martin, who also smashed 60 from 70 balls last Saturday, said.
“It was still tough – Nightcliff batted well.
“This has been a standout year for me. I think I’ve bowled unreal compared my past few years.”
Martin now has over 50 scalps from the past 12 months, including 22 across all matches for Woodville in the 2020-21 Adelaide first-grade competition.
It means Martin has done all he can to put himself in the conversation of picking up a contract for a state side.
“I’m still only 22 and I’ve got nothing to lose. I’m enjoying what I’m doing,” he said.
“I’m a landscaper so it’s tough going during the week, and there’s a high workload with the Strike League stuff as well.
“But I’m loving it, and my Desert Blaze team should be competitive in the T20 Strike League. Hopefully I can get noticed a bit more in the Strike League.”
Meanwhile, PINT fell 124 runs short of Southern Districts’ 6-396 at Fred’s Pass, Lachlan Bangs scoring 106 off just 86 balls with eight sixes, while centurion Jackson Isakka took 4-42. And fellow centurion Josh Kann (3-31) and Kane Hurley (3-36) helped Tracy Village to a massive 216-run win over reigning premiers Waratah.
