GONE OFF SCRIPT

PRESS conferences aren’t easy, just ask Wilkinson Engineering director Kevin Wilkinson. Mr Wilkinson had one of his apprentices hold up a script while appearing next to Michael Gunner to talk about his business. Things went even more pear-shaped when journalists were asked to provide questions. It’s tough in the spotlight. Maybe we can cut the politicians a little slack.

JUST NOT TERRITORIAN

BUSHIE would like to apologise on behalf of the anti-fun Motor Vehicle Registry for the horrific treatment experienced by Maureen Newman who tried to register FECKIT as her number plate. Ms Newman said the same number plate in Victoria was approved but the anally-retentive bureaucracy of the MVR still couldn’t be swerved. Where has the fun-loving NT gone?

MORE PERMITS NEEDED

ONE reader has contacted Bushie asking where they can get a tourist-hunting licence. They also requested good recipes for cooking tourists, which is a good idea for a SmartDaily liftout in the NT News.

Bushie will pass on the idea. Unfortunately, tourist numbers are endangered due to border restrictions so hunting them cannot be recommended at this time unless they’re from a hotspot.

HAVING A YAN

CLP Health spokesman Bill Yan tried to walk a fine line between attacking the government and not sounding like an anti-vaxxer on Thursday.

But Mr Yan somehow ended up sounding like he was defending the anti-mandatory vaccination crowd. Bushie spies reported that at a press conference, Mr Yan said: “I can guarantee that the Chief Minister’s own Labor MLAs are also getting letters about mandatory vaccinations”.

Mr Yan then asked: “Are they not representing their constituents?” Bushie thinks some MLAs aren’t comfortable representing those with doubts about the vaccine.

WHY NO BRIEFING, CHO?

MYSTERY surrounds why chief health officer Dr Hugh Heggie isn’t briefing CLP and independent MLAs on mandatory vaccinations. NT Health insist Dr Heggie did not decline an invitation to speak. So is the government blocking him?
