The BenQ RL2460HT is aimed at gamers who are looking for a budget monitor that is also good for other tasks such as photo editing and watching videos.

Build quality and design

It’s a 24in 1920x1080 TN display with an LED backlight and a 60Hz refresh rate. The stand is finished in matt black with subtle red detailing, while the screen has a matt finish. The adjustable stand tilts, swivels, has 110mm of height adjustment and can be used in portrait mode. Markings on the side mean you can note the height you prefer and quickly reset the position if you ever move it.

The bezels are thick – not ideal for immersive gaming – and you’ll find controls are on the righthand edge, which can be customised through the on-screen display. At the back is a standard VESA mount for wall mounting and a plastic insert on the base for storing cables.

Connectivity and on-screen display

Inputs include one VGA port, a DVI-D input and two HDMI sockets. We were disappointed not to see a DisplayPort input, but considering it isn’t a 4K monitor the HDMI inputs are fine. Being a gaming monitor, there’s also an HDMI output, which lets you record or stream your gameplay. The benefit of this method is that it doesn’t introduce and input lag or recording delay.

The monitor has a pair of 2W speakers, which are unlikely to see any use but are there nonetheless. You can output and input sound through two separate 3.5mm auxiliary jacks.

The on-screen display has the widest set of settings of any monitor in this group test. These include the option to change the display’s blue light filter, its response time, colour temperature, aspect ratio and Advanced Motion Accelerator (AMA), which is used to reduce ghosting in games. You can also save three separate profiles, adjust the picture modes and even customise what the monitor’s control buttons do. With so many settings you may be worried that the OSD is tricky to navigate, but the opposite is true and it’s easy to use.

Performance

The monitor performed well throughout our gaming tests, and we found its AMA (motion blur) and instant mode (no image processing,
