Meal Monsters

-

A FUN APP LOOKING TO ENCOURAGE KIDS TO LEARN TO COOK. Goal: £25,000 | Raised: £3,332 from 38 backers In many Western countries around the world, there’s a problem with obesity in young people. While half of that problem is due to a lack of exercise, it’s also due to a lack of a healthy diet and raising awareness goes a long way to solving this epidemic. Meal Monsters is an educational app that hopes to combine games and storytelling with recipes to get kids to learn about healthy foods and to make some tasty meals in the process. Hailing from the Planet Yum, the monsters Sal, Gor and Pom go about teaching kids about different ingredients, playing hide and seek, and also teaching them about healthy food choices. While the app is colourful, the artwork appealing and the UI easy to understand and use, this project failed to reach its goal. The reason why could have something to do with a lack of promotion but we also suspect that teaching children this way might not be the best way. Your humble writer personally learnt how to cook by looking over her mother’s shoulder. Perhaps this is still the best way for kids to become acquainted with healthy eating, or perhaps a similar app will have more success further down the road.
