Apple’s developer conference in June had a huge amount of AR and VR announcements, but we definitely weren’t expecting to see The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, showing off the works of his new AR company Wingnut AR. Using Epic Games’ Unreal 4 Engine and an iPad, a blank on-stage tabletop was transformed into a animated city complete with weatherbeaten cottages and roaming villagers that came under attack when fighter jets were introduced to the equation.
