Sleep more, people will like you for it

-

“YOU DON’T LOOK WELL, MATE.”

The term ‘beauty sleep’ takes on a whole new meaning with the findings of a recent study published in the Royal Society Open Science Journal. Turns out, the less sleep you get, the less attractive you become to others. According to the study, people are less likely to interact socially or professionally with anyone who appears physically tired.

122 strangers were asked to rate photographs of a group of people who had slept well for a couple of nights and then pictures of the same set of people taken after they were sleep-deprived. The study found that “having an unhealthy-looking face, whether due to sleep deprivation or otherwise, might thus activate disease-avoidance mechanisms in others and render one’s surroundings less socially inclined”.
