Under Armour SpeedForm Gemini 3 Record-Equipped Running Shoes

ONE STEP FORWARD, TWO STEPS BACK.

-

INSTALLING A SOFTWARE update for running shoes is the sort of thing we’d always envisioned doing ‘in the future’, so we were excited to see it was the first order of business when setting these up.

As a running shoe first and foremost, it’s lightweight, comfortable and attractive. After a simple setup through MapMyRun, we were off, with the app producing audio prompts detailing time, distance and pace at regular intervals based on data collected by the shoes.

The running metrics are more accurate than the ones produced by phones and fitness bands, but the only additional statistic it collects is your average cadence (steps per minute). With rival smart running systems gathering far more comprehensive details such as foot landing technique and pelvic rotation, we can’t help but think Under Armour has missed a trick here by sticking to the basics. There’s a ‘jump test’ that gives you guidance on workout intensity pre-run, but that’s about it. Hopefully more data and insights can be produced with a future software update.
