QUICK TIPS FOR NAVIGATING PHOTO-EDITING APPS.
IMPORT SOURCES
If you’re already attached to a camera application or happen to want to edit photos you already have, then it’s worth considering the import sources of an editing application. Most of the available free and paid offerings don’t actually offer much over and above local image file editing.
LAYERED REVISION HISTORY
Snapseed is the only application we know of that offers a full revision history that allows you to revise any edit at any point in time without tweaking the other actions. If you plan on doing a lot of editing, then this feature is actually extremely useful.
SHAREABILITY
Most of the editing options are pretty up to speed when it comes to the apps you intend to publish your photos to, but if you are thinking of editing photos for a particular social media site or cloud service, it’d be worth checking the compatibility first.
SAVE QUALITY OPTIONS
This generally isn’t quite as thorough as we’d like but the top apps tend to offer the option to shrink images to pixel presets (useful for social media) or change the file format and quality rate you save it at.
TUTORIALS
Whether they be officially created or curated by third parties, you’ll want a decent set of tutorials to get you experimenting with different tools and learning new skills to use on your photos.
CUSTOM FILTERS AND EDITS
For the most part, you’ll rely on the preset filters that come with the application, but some of the best options actually allow you to develop your own custom colour profiles and add them quickly to future images.
