App showdown: Best apps for concerts and events

THESE APPS WILL TAKE ALL THE EFFORT OUT OF KEEPING YOUR EAR TO THE GROUND.

EVERYONE LOVES LIVE music, but unless you trawl through the free local music mags every week, it can be hard to know when your favourite bands are in town. Fortunately, there are a number of apps that’ll make life easy when it comes to knowing when the bands you love are touring at your local.

One of the lesser talked about features of Spotify is its Concerts section, nestled under the discover tab. Before uncovering this, we really hadn’t thought how good a local music-finding app could be, and if you haven’t branched out to use this feature yet (and you like going to live music concerts), then you need to get on it ASAP. Since it already knows the music you listen to, you won’t have to sift through the usual announcements about bands that make a plane full of crying babies sound like a palatable alternative.

The best apps even offer recommendations for popular bands it thinks you might like based on your profile, that you would have never thought of otherwise. In addition to this, we have an excellent local nose for happy hours and meal deals and the Time Out ‘what to do’ app will have something to fill anyone’s social calendar.
