Logitech Craft keyboard
THE CROWN JEWEL OF KEYBOARDS COMES AT A ROYAL COST.
LOGITECH’S LATEST WIRELESS keyboard is one of the best we’ve ever used, but when you can score premium mechanical workhorses for significantly less, you have to ask the pertinent question: is it worth the heavy outlay?
The Craft’s design is honed to near perfection, sporting a chic minimalism that does so well for Apple products, and with construction this sturdy, there’s no doubt (either aesthetic or ergonomic) that this is a premium device. Although it’s not adjustable, the ‘board’s slight angle makes for comfortable typing, and the low-profile keys with circular indents are the most pleasant membrane caps our fingers have ever danced across.
Logitech Flow is also included in this keyboard, allowing you to switch to one of three paired Bluetooth devices with a single button press, regardless of its respective OS. The battery is rechargeable via USB-C and offers a week of consistent use, thanks in part to the auto-illuminating keys that remain dormant until they detect your encroaching fingers. The pièce de résistance, however, is the Crown — a seamless and squat cylinder at the top left of the ‘board. This control is context-sensitive, allowing you to adjust volume, scrub through video, or change brush-size depending on the software you have open. Twisting the knob automatically switches between smooth or incremental motion, depending on its application, and you can quickly cycle through its configurations with a gentle tap. Although the compatible software list is mostly comprised of the Adobe Suite at the moment, the future potential is strong, especially for creatives.
The Craft is an impressive culmination of Logitech’s many years of keyboard design — a terrifically sturdy, polymath of a device. However, all this perfection does come at a cost, and for those that aren’t going to embrace the Crown, you may be better off going with a (much) cheaper alternative.
